12 Laundry Hacks You'll Actually Use From Now On

12 Laundry Hacks You'll Actually Use From Now On

Most laundry routines are inherited, not chosen. These twelve upgrades - some clever, some counterintuitive, all effective - will change how you think about wash day.

"Most people learned to do laundry once and never revisited it. These are the things they missed."

Wash, dry, fold, repeat. The routine is so ingrained that most people never question it. But inside that unremarkable cycle are dozens of small decisions - temperature, load size, drying method, detergent choice - each one affecting how your clothes look, smell, and last. Here are twelve of the best adjustments you can make, starting with your next load.

01

Put the pod in the drum, not the drawer Aromiq™ pods go directly into the drum before your laundry goes in - not the detergent drawer.

In the drawer, pods can sit in pooled water and residue, dissolving unevenly and delivering the formula inconsistently. In the drum, the pod dissolves with the first contact of water and distributes the full formula evenly from the start of the cycle.

This is the single most common usage mistake with pods - and the easiest fix.

02

Never fill the drum more than three-quarters full

An overloaded drum can't circulate water and detergent properly. Clothes don't get clean evenly - some come out beautifully washed, others barely touched. With Aromiq™ pods specifically, an overloaded machine means fragrance molecules can't make full contact with all the fabric during the cycle, which directly reduces scent longevity. Three-quarters full maximum. Half full is ideal.

The same rule applies to the dryer - an overfull drum means uneven drying, more creases, and more heat damage.

03

Always wash on cold

Cold water is better for your clothes, your energy bill, and your scent longevity. Hot water opens fibres aggressively, releases fragrance molecules too fast during the wash cycle, fades colours faster, and causes more shrinkage in natural fabrics. Aromiq™ pods dissolve completely and perform fully in cold water - you lose nothing in cleaning power and gain significantly in fragrance retention.
Switching from hot to cold can reduce energy used per wash cycle by up to 90%. Almost all energy consumed goes toward heating water, not cleaning clothes.

"Cold water doesn't mean a compromise in clean. It means your colours stay true, your fibres last longer, and your Aromiq™ scent is still present by evening."

04

Pre-soak gym clothes in white vinegar before washing

Sweaty gym clothes left in a hamper for even a few hours start building odour that regular washing can struggle to fully eliminate. A vinegar pre-soak neutralises the bacteria responsible before the wash even begins - giving the Aromiq™ bio-enzyme blend a clean slate to work from.
  • Mix half a cup of white vinegar with cold water in a sink or basin
  • Submerge your gym clothes and leave for at least an hour
  • Wash as normal with one Aromiq™ pod in the drum
Vinegar is also the right choice for microfibre and moisture-wicking fabrics that don't respond well to fabric softener - it softens fibres naturally without coating them.

05

Pull cotton out of the dryer while slightly damp

This is the professional finisher's trick. For cotton shirts, trousers, and everyday garments - remove them from the dryer when they are still very slightly damp. Give each piece a firm shake to release creases, then hang immediately. The result is fewer wrinkles than fully dried clothes, zero static, and noticeably more scent - the final drying phase on the hanger is when Aromiq™ fragrance molecules settle deepest into the fibre.
Clothes finished this way often don't need ironing. The moisture redistributes wrinkles as they hang and dry naturally.

06

Air dry synthetic fabrics - always

Activewear, jersey, polyester blends, and stretch fabrics come out of a well-loaded wash almost dry. Running them through a hot dryer cycle degrades the synthetic fibres over time and burns off the fragrance molecules that just bonded during the wash. Hang them on a rack instead. The scent settles as they dry, and the fibres remain intact wash after wash.
Air-dried Aromiq™-washed synthetics carry a noticeably stronger and more complex scent than dryer-dried equivalents. The fragrance has time to settle rather than being expelled by heat.

07

Use chalk on grease stains before washing

White chalk is porous and highly absorbent - it lifts oily residue from fabric before the wash even begins, giving the Aromiq™ lipase enzymes less heavy lifting to do. Rub chalk generously over the stain, leave for 10–15 minutes, brush off, then load and wash normally. This works particularly well on cooking oil, salad dressing, and cosmetic stains.
For older, set-in grease stains, apply chalk and leave overnight before washing for a better result.

08

Prevent colour bleeding with a cold salt soak

New brightly coloured garments - especially jeans, red pieces, and bold prints - should be salt-soaked before their first wash. Salt helps set the dye in the fabric, dramatically reducing the risk of bleeding or fading in subsequent washes.
  • Fill a basin or sink with cold water
  • Add half a cup of table salt and stir until dissolved
  • Soak the garment for 30 minutes, then wash normally
Do this once when a garment is new and it will hold its colour significantly longer through regular Aromiq™ washes.

09

Remove wrinkles with ice cubes in the dryer

No iron, no time - no problem. Toss your wrinkled garments into the dryer with two or three ice cubes and run on a hot setting for five minutes. The ice creates steam as it melts, relaxing the fibres and releasing creases without direct contact with an iron. Works best on cotton and linen. Not suitable for delicates.
This hack works because steam is a natural wrinkle releaser - the same principle as hanging clothes in a steamy bathroom, but faster.

10

Keep your socks in a mesh bag

Losing socks is a genuine laundry epidemic. The solution is a small mesh laundry bag kept near the hamper - toss socks in as you take them off, wash the whole bag, and retrieve a complete pair every time. Socks in a mesh bag also wash more effectively, as they can't get buried in folds of other fabric where water and detergent don't fully reach.
The same bag works for delicate underwear, tights, and anything with small hooks or embellishments that can snag other garments.

11

Clean your washing machine with baking soda monthly

Detergent residue and mineral build-up accumulate inside your machine over time - and a dirty machine means dirty clothes, regardless of what detergent you use. The fragrance from your Aromiq™ pods is also affected by a machine that smells of old residue. A monthly baking soda clean takes five minutes and keeps the drum performing at its best.
  • Sprinkle one cup of baking soda directly into the empty drum
  • Run a hot cycle with no laundry
  • Wipe down the drum and door seal with a damp cloth after
A clean machine is the silent foundation of great laundry. Everything you put in comes out better.

12

Use a different Aromiq™ scent for different garments

This is the hack most people haven't thought of - but once they do, they don't stop. Your bedding doesn't have to smell the same as your gym kit. Your everyday work shirts don't need to carry the same signature as your going-out wardrobe. Rotate scents across garment types to build a more layered, intentional personal scent profile.
A common rotation: Velvet Empress or Bloom Blast for bedding and towels - calm and skin-close. Cedarwood or Noir Storm for everyday wear - confident and grounded. Birchstone for occasion pieces - bold and unmistakable. Woods Supreme for everything in between.

Twelve small changes. One very different relationship with your wardrobe.
